The victim of an early morning shooting Jan. 31 at Honolii lookout on Hilo’s northern outskirts is still hospitalized at The Queen’s Medical Center, according to court documents filed by police.

Documents identified the victim, who reportedly sustained four gunshot wounds, as 31-year-old William Holbron-Kealoha of Kailua-Kona.

Police say Holbron-Kealoha identified 43-year-old John Perez III, who was paroled in December on a murder conviction, as one of three gunmen who shot at him while he was in a sedan at the lookout area.

Another, according to police, was 29-year-old Scottie I.K. Yanagawa of Hilo, a prison furlough escapee who was killed by police in a Feb. 9 shootout in the Hilo Wal-Mart parking lot.

Perez made his initial court appearance on Friday, pleaded not guilty and was ordered to return Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.

A complete story will appear in Saturday’s edition.
